[Letter on stationery of University of Wyoming, College of Education, Laramie, Wyoming.]

PO Box 1033

Dear Mr. Riak:

I am in receipt of your letter of November 25 inquiring about corporal punishment.

First of all, while state law may not prohibit corporal punishment in Wyoming, almost all of the school districts have policies that either prohibit or severly restrict its use. Therefore I cannot accept your assertion that corporal punishment is "legal and widely used in the school systems of your state."

We do not instruct out teacher candidates in the use of corporal punishment.

Sincerely,
[Signature]
Charles Ksir, Ph.D.
