Alamo, CA 94507-7033Dear Mr. Riak:
I have received your letter concerning corporal punishment of female students. In that correspondence you expressed a concern that adult males are inflicting corporal punishment on female students. I can understand your concern if there are no established procedures for administration of this type of discipline.
Louisiana statutes provide for use of corporal punishment in the discipline process. The law does not stipulate as to the sex of the student receiving the punishment. Each school system is required to develop a discipline policy which may include corporal punishment.
If you have specific questions concerning local school system procedures, I suggest you contact Dean Frost in the Bureau of Student Services. She can be reached at (504) 342-3480.
Sincerely,
