Officer Accused of Child Sex Abuse

(NEW YORK) -- A New York City police officer, on the force since 1984, is facing charges of raping, sodomizing and sexually abusing a young girl he knew. Prosecutors say 37-year-old Heriberto Luciano is charged with carrying out the assaults during a six-year period. The abuse allegedly began when the girl was less than eleven-years-old. Police say Luciano was suspended without pay after his arrest Tuesday morning. The officer had been with the Manhattan North Initiative before his suspension.
