DCF to investigate belt-spanking dad
(Florida) EmeraldCoast.com, September 25, 2007

An investigator with the Department of Children and Families will look into whether a father crossed the line when he beat his daughter with a belt as punishment.

The girl, who is either 16 or 17 years old, suffered welts and bruises on her legs, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff s Office report. The girl is a student at Fort Walton Beach High School.

A school resource officer was called to the guidance office to discuss the matter with the girl on Sept. 13.

I explained to (her) that her father has a right to discipline her. I told her that he does not have a right to abuse her, the deputy wrote in his report. The girl told the deputy that the beating happened about two and a half weeks before. The reason for why she was punished is not available at this time.
