TN principal under investigation for paddling injury.
WBIR.COM, February 29, 2008

An East Tennessee principal is under investigation by the district attorney's office for an accusation he assaulted a student.

Attorneys say Hancock County High and Middle School Principal Thomas Zachary paddled the student so severely, the child needed medical attention.

Zachary was placed on administrative leave earlier this month. The assault accusations surfaced after he was placed on leave.

The district attorney's office is handling the case, because one of the child's parents works for the Hancock County Sheriff's Office.

Authorities stress Zachary is not charged in the case.

School leaders have received complaints regarding discipline of students.
