Currently in the U.S. there are only three professions in which hitting someone on the buttocks in order to cause pain can be part of standard practice:

1. Prostitution
2. Pornography
3. School teaching

In fairness to professionals working in fields #1 and #2, it should be noted that their sado-masochistic activities involve informed, consenting adults. Not children.
