Dear Governor Jim Geringer:I am very concerned about Senate File 74, which would prevent necessary intervention to protect children from abuse.
If senate file 74 is passed, it will likely result in some child abuse fatalities. People who beat a child to death do not do so in the first beating. It's a documented fact that batterers tend to incrementally increase the intensity of the beatings they inflict. Therefore, if it becomes legal to bruise children, then children who are victimized by excessively violent caretakers cannot be protected until after it's too late.
Pardon me if this sounds over-dramatic, but if you have a conscience at all, you must veto that proposal.
