Editor:

Ralph De La Cruz’s article about corporal punishment suffered from two serious defects:

1) It trivialized the practice, making it appear safely a thing of the distant past, and funny -- as if the victims of the practice are bloodless cartoon characters who only experience physical violence in the form of “BOOM! BAM! WHAM!”

2) From what he wrote, Sun-Sentinal readers would never guess that the beating of schoolchildren is still legal and widely practiced in Florida and 21 other states of the U.S.

Please investigate this issue and then publish something accurate and serious about legalized assault and battery of schoolchildren as the subject deserves.

Sincerely,

Jordan Riak, Exec. Dir.
