I strongly support the no-spanking resolution drafted by Jordan Riak and urge you to consider and approve it. Studies show that physical punishment of children leads to increased aggressivity in the child. Passing this resolution putting Oakland on record as opposing spanking as a means of child discipline would be a positive first step in decreasing violence in our society and would send an important message to parents.
